In keeping with the trend of unique houses (like our recent treehouse staycation post), we couldn’t resist sharing Maine Home+ Design’s feature on a charming cabin– which floats on the Fox Island Thoroughfare in Maine. Built by a couple initially as a rental property, this 240-square-foot “Chateau Bathtub” was too perfect to share and has become their residence from thaw until winter’s beginning.
While the engineering of a pontoon-style home astounds us, the story behind the quaint decor and design is what captured our attention. Traditions like Sunday afternoon driftwood barbecues and falling asleep under the stars fits perfectly with their vision for keeping themselves energy efficient. They have incorporated skylights and solar lights as well as propane tanks which operate on demand for their few appliances. They even have a small garden off the porch.
This honeymoon getaway has evolved into a private retreat from the day’s work with a view of the Maine wildlife and wilderness unlike any other.
